We Need to Talk About the Lamps

There are fourteen lamps in Bear’s living room. Bear can explain nine of them.

The first was a reasonable purchase. It was a lamp. The room was dark. The second lamp was for symmetry. Lamps three through eleven came during what Bear’s family refers to as the lighting initiative, a period of about nine days.

What was learned

• Estate sales open at 7 a.m. and Bear is awake.
• Nobody has ever said that’s enough lamps in a way Bear could hear.
• One outlet can do a lot if you believe in it.
